Hedi Slimane left behind a huge palette of iconic and excellent garments when his time as Creative Director for Saint Laurent came to an end. From all of his great jackets, to the amazing boots and the denim - it was Hedi Slimane that is solely responsible for what formed the last decade of Saint Laurent.
After his departure, Anthony Vaccarello was recruited as the new man for SLP. He made the brand more modern friendly, and took an approach that nearly every brand nowadays takes to get the revenue up - branding. That Saint Laurent would become a „logo“ brand was inconceivable when Hedi was responsible for the creative output, but the times change and since YSL was looking for growth, it was understandable that the brand needed to fit into what became so popular at that time. It is no wonder that even Hedi Slimane himself does logo pieces now at Celine.
But needles to say, Anthony Vaccarello did a great job taking over the brand and also created some very nice new pieces - but the Hedi Aestethic did not leave YSL. Vaccarello and his team re-interpreted his best pieces in new colourways, which brought out some amazing things.
