Steven Sprouse by Andy Warhol T-Shirt
The Piece
about the Piece
This T-Shirt features a 1984 Photography-turned-artwork of Steven Sprouse, made by Andy Warhol. Stephen Sprouse was a fashion designer and artist credited with pioneering the 1980s mix of "uptown sophistication in clothing with a downtown punk and pop sensibility“. Raf Simons used the portrait on some amazing pieces like this one of his SS18 Collection. „Steven was one of the few American designers who had a kind of approach I link more to Europe and the people who inspired me, because they were fascinated by youth and generational dialogues, like Gaultier, Helmut Lang.”
about the Collection
Following his debut at Calvin Klein, Raf Simons took a very special attempt at creating his Spring Summer 2018 Collection. In a time where collaborations seem to have no limits, Raf Simons chose to stay true to his artistic values by collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, giving him access to the whole Archive of Andy Warhol and his artworks. The main focus laid on the use of Warhol’s “Death and Disaster” series, featuring clothes with screen-printed images of car crashes, electric chairs and more out of the series. (“Death and Disaster” started when Henry Geldzahler, a curator and friend to Warhol, suggested the artist go deeper after creating his now iconic Campbell’s Soup Cans.)
