Berkeley College Bomber
The Piece
Details
This Oversized College Jacket was part of Raf Simon’s last Collection for Calvin Klein, Spring Summer 2019, which was presented shortly after they announced his exit. The Jacket itself is a really important piece for the collection, as it showcases how much Raf was focusing on American culture as inspiration for his work at Calvin. It was featured in his 205W39NYC collegiate-inspired lookbook, which showcased official collaborations between the brand and prestige universities such as Yale and Berkeley.
With cream leather sleeves in contrast to the blue cotton, and multiple patches that draw clear lines to symbols of the University of California, Berkeley, this jacket creates the well known football player aesthetic and gives a perfect view of the key elements from Calvin Klein 205W39YNYC. As expected with Raf's CK 205 Pieces the Quality is impeccable while still remaining an authentic College Jacket feel when wearing.
the Collection
The SS19 collection from Calvin Klein 205W39NYC was something very special, meanwhile very sad as it was Raf's Goodbye to Calvin Klein after more than 2 years of collaborative work. The whole show was a tribute to american cinema with the movies „Jaws“ and „The Graduate“ being the main inspiration.
Simons called them “very important movies in my memory.” Explaining his attraction, he said “Disasters happen but they turn again into beauty, and beauty is around us and it can oftentimes turn into disaster.”
The references to the movie Jaws were quite literal with the iconic Artwork being used throughout the collection, printed on denim pieces, t-shirts, hoodies and knitwear, it became one of our favorite collection from the brand.
