The Piece

Part of the Fall Winter 2017 collection by Calvin Klein 205W39NYC, this double breasted coat offers a precise interpretation of classic outerwear. Its elongated silhouette and sharp peak lapels give it a formal presence, while the natural drape of the cotton moleskin adds a softer character.

The dense, velvety texture of the beige moleskin provides warmth and durability, with a matte finish that highlights the coat’s sculptural lines. Flap pockets and tonal buttons reinforce the traditional tailoring vocabulary, executed with clarity and restraint.

Reflecting the FW17 collection’s focus on American archetypes reimagined through Raf Simons’ vision, the coat balances structure with ease, turning a timeless form into a modern essential.

When designer Raf Simons surprisingly announced his retirement from Dior in 2015, everyone was excited to see what would come next. He led the traditional company into a new era with his minimalism, as can be seen in the film “Dior & I”.

In August 2016, Calvin Klein, Inc. announced the appointment of Raf Simons as Chief Creative Officer of the brand, overseeing all aspects of design, global market and communications, and visual creative services.

The move from Calvin Klein was viewed as a shift for the brand and it’s place in the fashion world. CK was seen as a brand that fits more into the category of Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, rather than high-class luxury brands. But Raf Simons came to change things 180 degrees. He arrived at 205 West 39th Street, Calvin Klein’s longtime address and renamed his luxury label, that was created within CK, 205W39NYC.
